WHIRLAWAY SPORTS: Spike Night

The Sança Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with Whirlaway Sports Center, where the Methuen (MA, USA) based specialty running store plans to donate a portion of its Spike Night event proceeds to help the foundation.

On March 22 at 4pm, Whirlaway Sports Center will host its annual “Spike Night“, an event that attracts hundreds of middle school, high school and college student-athletes, coaches and parents to purchase track and field athletic shoes, apparels and accessories at one-day only discounted rates. The event will include pizza, prizes, photo booth and a huge selection of spikes and training shoes.

Whirlaway was founded as Riverside Golf Range in 1934 by the Kazanjian family. In 1941, the store changed its name to “Whirlaway” to celebrate the 1941 Triple Crown Winning race horse. Decades later, in 1983, Dave Kazanjian began selling running shoes in a smaller corner of the Whirlaway Pro Shop. The store quickly became known as the place to be fitted for a great pair of shoes throughout the New England running community. As the business expanded to serve athletes in many other sports, a larger facility was built in 1989.

The Whirlaway Sports Center now sits above the pro shop and is one of New England’s premier dealers of athletics shoes and sporting goods. The store currently carries over 1,000 styles of athletic footwear from top brands for every foot type in addition a wide variety in athletic apparel and accessories that match performance needs. The family tradition of going the distance for every customer continues and is evident in the pride of each and every staff member that works there.

“On behalf of the Sança Foundation, Inc and its members, I would like to thank the Whirlaway Sports Center, its staff and customers for supporting the foundation through the High School Spike Night,” said Ruben Sança , President of the Sança Foundation. Through this kind gesture, Whirlaway continues to show its longtime family commitment to giving back to the community, making it possible for our foundation to help children in Cabo Verde.”

Whirlaway has been nationally recognized by the Running Network and Footwear Intelligence as one of “50 Best Running Stores in America” eight times in the last ten years. The immense popularity of its “Spike Nights” earned the store unique distinction from Saucony in 2012.
